It really has been a dream come true to do what I love. I worked in other industries, none of which I had such enthusiasm for until I started working in the outdoors. The adrenaline rush, overcoming fear and the physical challenge instantly got me hooked and it's exciting knowing I found something I enjoy and can create a career from. Some say that's half the battle; for me there was no battle. I love what I do. I get so much satisfaction and pleasure taking people out climbing and sharing my passion. It's not all about the rock climbing either - for me its about getting out into the elements, being at one with nature, feeling alive and being challenged.
As children we spent holidays on the West Coast as my parents come from Donegal and Kerry. I always felt a connection to the West, maybe its the sea, the mountains, the wild...whatever it is I'm happy to now call Sligo my home. I always loved being amongst nature and keeping active. As a child I took every opportunity to go hiking, cycling, skateboarding and even climbing trees, walls...basically anything with height!
The thrill of seeking new and undiscovered terrain is what I love most about the adventure lifestyle. I have a constant desire for the unfamiliar mountain or route to climb, wave to surf, river to paddle...which has brought me to far and distant places. I've had great pleasure discovering mountains and rivers of the Slovenian & Italian Alps, surfing the waves of the Pacific in Hawaii and Nicaragua, and most recently to climb and hike Mount Rainier, the highest mountain/volcano within the Cascade range of the Pacific Northwest of America! Travelling has become an important and rewarding part of my life, I have learned so much through immersion in other cultures and love meeting new people and sharing experiences with them.
It was this need for adventure that first brought me to Sligo, which continues to keep me busy exploring ever since. Sligo is an outdoor adventurer's paradise, home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet. I only have to look out the window to be reminded of that. The mountains, rivers, lakes and coastline have a raw beauty and awe about them that capture the mind and imaganation. Amidst this spectacular scenery are crags that offer rock climbing with some of the most amazing views of the coast line and landscape around. Imagine being 90 feet off the ground hanging off the edge of a cliff looking out over Culleenamore bay, with Knocknarea and Benbulben in the background and the Donegal hills in the distance.
Why not make it a reality and experience the thrill for yourself!
